I spent a few months reviewing plasmas and lcd’s both in the big box stores and online. I watch a lot of sports, and the lcd’s still have the motion blurring problem (except the expensive new ones). For me, that narrowed it down to the plasmas. Like others have said, the Panasonic’s stood out from the rest of the plasma’s (except for Pioneers, but they are almost double the cost). In terms of 1080 and 720 plasmas, I could not tell a difference between the two in 42″. Maybe a little in the larger sets, but not in this size. Not worth the extra cost IMHO. So, I finally took the plunge on Panasonic’s 720 42″ when the price dropped below $1000, no tax, free shipping. A great deal for a TV that has been on the market for less than 2 months.

Delivery on the TV was fast (about 5 days early). They called a day ahead and delivered it within 1/2 hour of their estimated arrival. They made sure that the TV worked, and offered to take away all the packaging material. A+.

The TV was a snap to set up–10 minutes. The first thing that I noticed was that the color contrast is excellent, even on SD- much better then our 6-year-old Toshiba 27″ tube TV. The clarity varies by station- a function of the channels, not the TV. SD = A-

The picture quality really excels while playing DVDs through component video. Deep rich blacks, vivid colors. The “Planet Earth” series looks incredible. We have not hooked it up to HD yet, but I’m sure it will be even better. A+.

A nice feature is that the TV remembers your settings for each video input. I.e.–we programmed a different color contrast for broadcast TV and DVDs and it stores each separately. There are more than enough ways to adjust picture quality to really fine tune it.

The audio is better than other sets, but not great. We don’t use it though, since the TV is hooked up through a 5.1 receiver.

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, both the TV and Amazon’s delivery service. Definitely would buy it again.

FOLLOW UP: I just got HD, and it is even better than I could have imagined. I don’t even like NBA basketball, but I found myself glued to the playoff game just to see the clarity. UFC was almost TOO clear for comfort. The only problem– I can’t go back to SD now…

By Steve R

You really can’t go wrong purchasing this TV. Don’t base your decision directly on the Cnet review and instead head over to AVSForum. You’ll find a 80+ page thread with numerous reviews done by experts in the field. All of which are very positive and explain why CNet’s review isn’t too reliable.

Unlike Panasonic’s earlier model, the 77U, this TV has an excellent picture right out of the box. There’s no need for an expensive calibration or messing with service menu’s. I’ve found my favorite settings, thanks to someone on AVSForum, is:

Picture Mode: Cinema
Picture: 84
Brightness: 40
Tint: -2
Sharpness: 50
Color Temp: Warm
Color mgmt: off
x.v.Color: off
Video NR: off
MPEG NR: off
Black Level: light

You’ll find a ton of other settings there too so just do a google search.

This TV also seems very reliable. Out of over 3000+ posts I only saw maybe three that were returned due to a serious failure. (All of which were promptly replaced/repaired) Panasonic also has a really cool warranty service called “Panasonic Concierge”. You can schedule service calls online and you’ll be contacted within 24 hours. You can also call or chat online with a rep if you’ve got any questions. Another great thing about them is that if your TV fails and they have to take it away for repair they give you a loaner TV! I sure wish I had that option with my old Philips.

I was first considering purchasing a Samsung LCD but decided to see both first hand in the store. After adjusting the settings on both TV’s the Samsung had a very unnatural and bright image while the Panasonic looked as if you were looking out the window. While this sort of thing boils down to what type of picture you prefer I personally was sold on the Panasonic.

Off topic, Amazon rocks too. After buying the TV their price dropped by a lot. I requested a refund for the difference and they did it no questions asked. I got the money back within 3 days! I couldn’t be happier with not only the TV, but also Amazon.

I’ve been through 3 t.v.’s so far. The first t.v. I bought was my first HDTV ever but the picture was just not that good. I felt like it wasn’t a good upgrade from SDTV. The second t.v. I bought had a really good HD picture and an acceptable SD picture, but no matter what I watched the picture was always dark for some reason even if I increased the brightness or contrast. That t.v. also lacked the inputs I needed for different things like my cable box, game systems, etc.

After deciding to give it one more shot, I stumbled upon this t.v. with it’s great specs and many inputs. I have to say that this t.v. has excelled my expectations. From Standard definition channels to High definition channels, this t.v. is a winner. It is so bright even during the daytime (funny how others mentioned this too lol) and it has those inputs that I wanted. So far I’ve played my Xbox 360 on this t.v. and the picture cannot be beaten. The picture is so crisp and clear that it puts those other t.v.’s I had to shame. Oh and about the picture being dark, it can’t be. I only have the settings on the “Game Mode” that this t.v. has and I can see every detail there is in the games. I haven’t even brought up the brightness or contrast yet and there is no need for it! There is even an option in the menu to make dark scenes even more clear!

The sound on this t.v. is also good. I thought I had my surround sound speakers on when using the t.v. but I actually was using the t.v. speakers and yes they were that loud at a low volume setting. So here is how I sum it up:

VIDEO: 10 out of 10
I have not yet been disappointed with the SD or HD picture of this t.v. Whites are white, blacks are black.

AUDIO: 10 out of 10
If something ever happened to my surround sound speakers, I wouldn’t care because it will be like they never broke.

INPUTS: 9 out of 10
It’s nice that they’re 3 HDMI inputs but I wish there was a second component input. But since everything is going HDMI these days, this is not a problem.

PRICE: 10 out of 10
I’ve seen this t.v. going for up to $899 but I bought it for $699. What a steal at this price.

OVERALL: 10 out of 10
Finally I have found the t.v. that I have been looking for all this time. I had to wait until 2008 to get it, but it was definitely worth the wait. If you have been waiting to get an HDTV, then now is the time to get it. You won’t be disappointed.

By Willow Wolf

I was really surprised at how good this TV is. The picture is perfect, no matter what kind of lighting is in the room, from full daylight to dim nighttime. It comes on quickly, and the automatic channel programming is just about flawless. The onscreen menu lets you control everything to set your preferences as desired. The HD programming (broadcast over the air) is just awesomely crisp and clear.

With the growth of the internet rapidly increasing each day so has the risk increased of your PC becoming infected with a computer virus as you surf and download files from the web. The affects of these infections can be disastrous in that these malicious pieces of software are designed to replicate themselves, spread from computer to computer and have the main objective of system destruction. Having said this you are best advised to run regular scans on your system with free virus removal software to prevent these infections. But what is a computer virus anyway?

A virus is simply defined as a piece of malicious or infected software that spreads from PC to PC with the sole purpose of deleting system files, folders and even your hard drive. Viruses differ from other infections like spyware which secretly monitors surfing activities in that they are created to cause instant damage to your system. They commonly infect your PC via software downloads from the internet, infectious email attachments, surfing “bad” websites and from engaging in instant messaging chats. Given the fact that they are are almost impossible to remove manually you will have to use an anti virus protection tool which will be able to detect signatures within files on your hard drive and quarantine them accordingly.

Some of the most common symptoms you will experience include internet browser redirecting, changing of your homepage, white desktop background indicating an error, sluggish performances, pop ups and unknown applications residing in system memory. Even if you don’t suffer from these symptoms and you surf the internet regularly it is important to perform regular scans to prevent infections of this nature as they could end up corrupting your entire system.

Antivirus Protection is a top rated free virus protection software tool which continues to gain huge popularity because of its powerful virus removal abilities. If you would like to download the latest free version and scan your PC now please visit the website below.

Keeping your computer free from viruses is something that we know we all have to do. But it is not top of our list of most important things. That is, until the day your machine is the subject of a catastrophic virus attack. You could lose valuable work, documents and hours of time. In short it is far better to prevent this happening than to try to deal with a crisis latter. Here are some tips on helping you avoid this situation

1) Do Not Open Email Attachments

Unless it is from a trusted source that you were expecting. This is a common way for viruses to be transmitted from one computer to another. Opening the attachment activates the virus.

2) Use a Spam Detector

If you use an email spam detector like Mailwasher you will be able to cut down on spam email you receive. Not only is this type of email annoying and time consuming, it’s a way that programmers distribute computer viruses.

3) Use Antivirus Software

This software should be installed on every machine. If you have a computer with Internet access, it is essential.

4) Keep Your Antivirus Software Up To Date

Once you have your software installed, ensure that you are protected from the latest viruses. If you have a brand new computer, the first thing you should do after connecting to the Internet is to go to the website of your antivirus software to download the latest updates.

Most of the better programs have automatic updates that occur in the background while you are connected to the Internet. If you are buying software, check to see if this feature is included.

5) Be Careful Sharing Files

We all love passing on funny games and little applications to friends. But be careful. Some of these have been loaded with viruses and spyware that could compromise your PC.

6) Scan Before Opening

Get into the habit of scanning everything that you bring onto your machine before you open it. This could be a file that you download from the Internet or a CD of data that a work colleague has given you.

7) Patch Up Software

If you receive a security patch update, be sure to make sure that you install it. This is where a security vulnerability has been identified and a patch has been released to prevent the risk. This occurs regularly for the Windows operating systems.
